Stoke City 1 Peterborough 0

Last updated : 17 March 2002 By Rob Stanway

After 15 minutes, Stoke totally went to sleep – We couldn't keep hold of the ball and it was Peterborough who began to control the game.

There was a new defensive partnership of Wayne Thomas and Clive Clarke, with David Rowson at Right Back, and Jurgen VanDoerzen at Left Back. Henry, who perhaps earned his place in the line-up for the next game, later replaced Rowson.

Stoke scored in the 10th minute after a Bjarni Gudjonson cross was half-volleyed home by the Icelander – Arnar Gunnlaugsson. Gudjonson had already rattled the woodwork and Gunnlaugsson hit the rebound into the side netting.

Stoke from then only had their breaks, but in fairness, Peterborough did not play well enough to stop us playing, Stoke stopped playing and allowed Peterborough chances.

Jurgen Vandoerzen looked ineffective and Clive Clarke did well in the middle, although you could tell it was not his preferred position.

Peterborough had the ideal opportunity to snatch a point from the game when a penalty was awarded. That was hit wide to the delight of the Stoke fans, and the goal kick was given.
