Unbeaten Norwich were happier with a point than second division newcomers Stoke who felt they deserved all three after a second-half humdinger.

The visitors took the lead through Adam Drury's first goal for the club two minutes after the interval but were hanging on after Kris Commons with his first senior goal, equalized 16 minutes from time.

The first half lacked quality but certainly not effort as both teams refused to allow the opposition time on the ball.

It took 23 minutes for the first shot to materialize when Robert Green easily caught an effort from Stoke's James O'Connor.

Stoke continued to pose the more serious threat for the rest of the half as Green saved from Clive Clarke before Andy Cooke fired over the first real opening of the contest.

Norwich caught Stoke cold straight after the interval when Drury raced on to a terrific pass from Paul McVeigh to drive a well placed shot past Neil Cutler.

Stoke, roared on by their fans refused to cave in and building pressure brought its rewards 16 minutes from time.

Clarke's shot had been deflected wide with Green beaten before Commons, who will be 19 on Friday, claimed an early birthday present.

The youngster swapped passes with Mark Goodfellow, and beat two defenders before placing his shot in off a post.

Norwich manager NIgel Worhinghton said: "I am pleased with the point .Of course we would of liked all three but I felt a draw was a fair result.

"We are winning our home games and drawing away and that will do for me any time."

Stoke manager Steve Cotterill said: " I thought we did enough to win but I'm delighted with the way the boys are applying themselves and of course we are very pleased for Kris.

"He' s got a special talent and it seems effortless when he srikes the ball with his left foot. We had all been saying it would not be long before he scored and when it came it was a goal of real quality."
