The Potters found themselves out of luck as they lost to the Seasiders, courtesy of a goal minutes after half time by striker DJ Campbell.

City started well and Ricardo Fuller and Kenwyne Jones both going close in quick succession whilst Huth forced Kingson into his first save of the afternoon.

Jones just missed the target twice more before Blackpool's first effort flew wide by David Vaughan.

Blackpool looked set to open the scoring on 18 minutes but Wilkinson appeared from nowhere to stop Varney tapping home from 4 yards beforePotters keeper Begovic stayed tall to deny Campbell, who was through one on one.

City went closest of all to scoring when Fuller collected the ball 20 yards out and curled his shot onto the bar with Kingson well beaten.

With half time looming Begovic did fantastically well to push the ball from the feet of Grandin as he looked to roll the ball into the net.

After Delap had twice been denied at corners he did get the ball in the net a minute before the interval but the ref ruled it out for an apparent foul on the keeper after Huth challenged the stopper to the initial ball in.

Although Campbell opened the scoring a minute into the second half, when he turned in Adam's shot after being played onside by Collins, it was Whitehead who had the halfs first chance, but he blazed over from 15 yards.

City hit back and Jones and Fuller both narrowly put chances wide in search of an equaliser before a golden opportunity was spurned on the hour as Whitehead and Pennant got in each others way when both were unmarked on the edge of the 6-yard box.

Etherington was next to go close when his 25 yard free kick was watched onto the bar by Kingson, the keeper well beaten again. Huth was still looking dangerous at set pieces and Kingson pulled off a great save to deny the German another headed goal.

Although they were obviously out of luck the Potters continued to push for an equaliser and it nearly arrived in the last minute of added time but Delap's header was sensationally headed off the line by a brave defender to secure the points for Blackpool.
