Player Ratings:Chelsea 2-0 Stoke

Last updated : 28 August 2010 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorensen - 7 - Terrific penalty save, fantastic stop from Drogba's pile driver and quality stop from Kalou one on one late on BUT trip on Anelka for second penalty slightly let him down

Andy Wilkinson - 5 - Looked out of his depth as he struggled to get in the game. Gave the ball away quite a bit and also followed the ball leaving players free. Far from his best

Danny Collins - 7 - One of his best games in a Stoke shirt. Kept his passing simple and accurate, was always on hand when needed to put a tackle in and generally kept his flank quiet

Ryan Shawcross - 6 - Was reliable as ever without being at his very best. Gave away a penalty with a poor challenge, but recovered well

A.D. Faye - 7 - Got his head to many a dangerous cross and stopped Chelsea from getting close to goal. One of his better performances in recent times as the feeling he maybe has trouble motivating himself for games against smaller sides gathers more evidence

Robert Huth - 7 - Was a towering presence at the back and was unlucky to be on the losing side.  Composed on the ball and stopped many an attempted attack

Jon Walters - 7 - Never stopped running and although, as expected, he was less involved than his previous games he used the ball well and also defended well to keep things tight at the back

Matthew Etherington - 7 - Ran the ball well and was always willing to get back and defend before being a willing carrier going forward. Had one effort blocked off the line by Drogba and can be happy with his days work

Rory Delap - 7(Man of the Match) - Got in the faces of the Chelsea midfield and never stopped running throughout the game, breaking up play. Left his mark on John Terry after a 50/50, for which he should be a hero, and also made Ashley Cole look stupid when he tricked his way past him late on, deserving of a knighthood surely?

Dean Whitehead - 6 - Had a very quiet game as he got on with the quiet work in the midfield without attracting the spotlight.

Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Ran the line well on his own, linking up well with Walters and Etherington, and although obviously nowhere near fit, lasted 60-odd minutes by conserving his energy and only uing it when the ball was near. Will be a real handful whe he's fully fit

Glenn Whelan - 6 - Got stuck in after coming on and, after giving the ball away a few times after he came on, improved late on with some important passes. Very unlucky his shot from distance bounced the wrong side of the line after striking the bar.

Ricardo Fuller - 6 - Showed some good touches but had no luck as he tried in vain to get the Potters back in the match. Definately promise in the Walters/Fuller partnership if and when they are needed together.

Danny Pugh- 6 - Kept the game ticking late on as he was sent on for fresh legs with a few minutes left
