Player Ratings: Stoke City 4-1 FC Thun

Last updated : 26 August 2011 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorensen - 6 - Had very little to do, well nothing at all, but had no chance at all with the goal

Andy Wilkinson - 9 - Was full of energy as he sprinted forward at every opportunity during the second period. Some crunching tackles and half a dozen shots as he took the big lead as an opportunity to try and get his first Potters goal

Marc Wilson - 9(Man of the Match) - If Wilko was full of effort and crunching tackles, Wilson was full of skill and calmness on the ball. Some brilliant work to defend and then bring the ball out and looked dangerous on the overlap. Forced off with an injury but hopefully nothing serious

Ryan Shawcross - 8 - Commanidng at the back as he had the Thun forwards in his pocket all night, some good distribution and good work alongside Upson

Matthew Upson - 8 - Great header for the opener and formed a great partnership with Shawcross to keep the opposition at bay

Jermaine Pennant  - 8 - Set up a hat trick of goals aswell as putting numerous other dangerous balls into the danger zones. Best game of this season by far

Danny Pugh - 5 - Had a bit of a nightmare as he struggled to have an impact out on the left. Was too slow and dallied on the ball. Will be lucky to get another chance out wide

Dean Whitehead - 8 - Never stopped running and threw himself into countless tackles, great effort and helped City control the game

Glenn Whelan - 7 - Great finish to well and truly kill the game before the break and had a few neat touches. Didn't always pick the right pass though, sometimes denying a team mate an easy pass so as to try a 'Hollywood ball'

Jon Walters - 7 - Plenty of effort but nothying really dropping for him at the minute. Constant chasing made the away defence lump the ball forward, usually resulting in the Potters regaining possession in defence

Kenwyne Jones - 9 - Couple of goals and will be gutted he missed a couple of early chances. Some nice showboating towards the end, proving he does possess the talent, and gave plenty of effort to pressure the defence

Tom Soares - 7 - Nice cameo as he enjoyed his time on the pitch. Used his pace to burn past the full back before setting up Jones second. Did seem to freeze on the ball though when he had to think about what to do

Danny Collins - 6 - Got caught a couple of times on the ball but was a hiding to nothing with the game over and Wilson having played so well

Ryan Shotton - 7 - Came on and made a nuisance of himself up front. Got stuck in and made good runs into positive areas. A couple of driving runs nearly allowed him a decent effort on goal but was twice thwarted by last ditch defending
