Last updated : 30 October 2011 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorensen - 8(Man of the Match) - Kept the Potters in the tie in the first half but had no chance with either goal in the second half.

Robert Huth - 7 - Defender was solid at the back and also was a danger in the opposition box as he looked to open his seasons account

Marc Wilson - 7 - Another game at left back for the Irishman and he was solid if unspectacular

Ryan Shawcross - 6 - Lost Suarez for the second goal but was on hand to mop up any loose ends during the rest of the game and had a battle with Carroll

Jonathan Woodgate - 6 - Missed a few headers and struggled with Suarez's movement but also did some good work on his return to the side

Ryan Shotton - 7 - Showed good pace and was direct with his dribbling but was lacking a final ball and found full back in good form

Matthew Etherington - 7 - Subbed midway through second half after display that saw him shows signs of return to form with bursts of speed but also saw him anonymous for large parts

Glenn Whelan - 6 - Never controlled the midfield and passing was awful, way too many balls going astray

Rory Delap - 6 - Never really got stuck in in the midfield battle but throw ins caused panic

Jon Walters - 7 - Never stopped working and sheer workrate created the Potters strike. Not the same when moved out wide. Unlucky to have goal chalked off for foul that never was

Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Brilliant finish for the goal and won a few flick ons but didn't seem to be at his very best

Jermaine Pennant - 7 - Winger came on and added balance and delivery to the side, looked lively on return from injury

Cameron Jerome - 7 - Pace troubled defence when able to run at goal but didn't get enough chances to do that as he would have liked

Peter Crouch - 6 - Came on late on to try and grab an equaliser and should have won a penalty
