Player Ratings: Stoke 2-1 Shrewsbury

Last updated : 24 August 2010 By Dan Buxton

Carlo Nash - 6 - Had very little to do apart from rush out a couple of times to clear through balls, one cracking saev low to the right but had no chance with the Shrews goal

Andy Wilkinson - 6 - Got the call from the cold and did well as he bombed forward when possible as well as dshowing the usual tenacious, tough tackling defending we know and love

Robert Huth - 6 - Played in the unfamiliar position of left back and was solid enough, very little came from his wing, and looked a little more comfortable on that side

Ryan Shawcross - 6 - Not his usual dominant self, maybe it was the opposition?, but never seemed to get anywhere near top gear

Danny Higginbotham - 5 - Had a bit of a nightmare as he was often pulled out of position and also missed headers and clearances aswell as very ropey distribution

Michael Tonge - 7 - Good energetic display. Keeping it simple and doing nothing wrong so far this season

Matthew Etherington - 8 - Two gtreat assists and plenty of running that ensured what could have been a tricky night for Stoke passed by comfortably

Danny Pugh - 6 - Came in and was Mr. Dependable, as always, putting in a decent, if unspectacular, performance

Glenn Whelan - 5 - Poor run of form continued as he struggled to stamp his authority in the midfield. Maybe that pre-season injury has left him chasing the fitness of other centre mid's

Tuncay - 7 - Inconsistent. Trying too hard to impress and rushed the simple things, heaping more pressure on himself. However the usual flashes of brilliance were there and he took his goal well

Jon Walters - 8(Man of the Match) - Got off the mark for the Potters with a great header, getting himself in front of the centre back and burying the header in the bottom corner. Great hold up play and accurate flick ons

Ricardo Fuller - 7 - Showed pace and power to upset the opposition defence and was, as usual a very dangerous weapon to have coming off the bench

Dean Whitehead - 6 - Not on for too long but did the dirty work and stopped a few late attacks as the Potters wobbled a little bit

Rory Delap - 6 - Little time to get involved but put himself about well
