Player ratings: Stoke 2-0 Burnley

Last updated : 15 August 2009 By Dan Buxton

Sorenson 7 Everything he adh to do, although not a lot, he did convincingly

Wilkinson 6 Looked shaky at times, against Guerro mainly, but tackling was crisp

Higginbotham 7 Defensively solid. Never gave their winger a sniff and tried his best to get forward and support his own winger

A.D.Faye 6 By his own astronomical standards he had a poor game. Gave away silly fouls and could have quite easily been sent off. Other parts of his game were solid

Shawcross 7 Scored the opener and was a rock at the back. Had little to do but did it well and kept calm when under pressure

Lawrence 7(MOTM) Set up the opener with a fantastic free kick and his delivery was spot on all afternoon. Tracked back when needed and always trying to get involved

Etherington 6 Full of energy and did all his defensive duties well. Searched for that elusive first competitive goal and nearly had it in the first half. Crossing was off though and too many chances were wasted with poor deliveries

Delap 7 Forced own goal with long throw in. Very busy in the midfield, always pressing and never letting the opposition settle. Kept passing simple and had a good game

Whitehead 6 Didn't get the breaks. The job was done after half an hour and the team never had to get out of second gear. Will be judged after more difficult games than this

Beattie 5 Looks like he needs a goal. Uncharacteristically off the pace. Hopefully just a case of being ring rusty and will be back on the button come Wednesday. If he doesn't then Dave Kitson will be knocking on the door.

Fuller 7 Looked dangerous, lively and every bit the Fuller we all know and love. Unfortunately didn't get on the scoresheet but his all round contribution should never be underestimated

Subs

Kitson 7
Continued his fine form from pre-season and thought he had opened his Potters account in competitive games when he beat the offside trap. The crossbar denied him that time but I'm sure that goal is on it's way
