Player Ratings: Stoke 1-2 Chelsea

Last updated : 12 September 2009 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorenson - 7 - Was shaping up for another solid game before injury struck and he was forced off towards the end of the first half

Andy Wilkinson - 9 - Fantastic display. Struggling to think of any danger that came from his side and he controlled both the winger and overlapping Cole easily. Forward play seems to be creeping more and more into his game, which is a sign of his growing confidence at this level

Danny Collins - 9(Man of the Match) - Looks a step up from Higgy as he was solid in defence, dealing with everything in his own third, and also bombed forward whenever possible and was often seen pressuring the visitors in their own half

Abdoulaye Faye - 8 - Dominant display in the air, showed good awareness with the goal to head over Cech but got caught on the ball a few times and was lucky it didn't cost us. Was marking Drogba for the first goal

Robert Huth - 8 - Fantastic debuts as he looked so composed and was a man mountain in the air. Injured late on but soldiered on with no subs left

Ryan Shawcross - 9 - Anotehr great display from the centre half who seems better than last season, and has come out of Faye's shadow. Near faultless all round display including the odd run into attack

Glenn Whelan - 8 - Always busy but had few options as the game wore on. Not an easy job for a passing midfielder today but did the best he could

Dean Whitehead - 7 - Has a fantastic engine and although distribution wasn't great he did the job he was brought in to do

Rory Delap - 8 - Here, there and everywhere. Throw ins were dangerous and he, like his midfield partners, helped out in both attack and defence

Dave Kitson - 7 - Always showed for the ball and constantly closed down in another great display from the reformed striker. Early change of roles due to Beattie's injury didn't knock him off his game

James Beattie - 6 - Looked on the ball for the five minutes he was on the pitch but maybe should have done better with the chance he did have that ultimately led to his injury

Subs

Ricardo Fuller - 8 - Just as he got himself comfy on the bench he was out on the pitch. Looked dangerous whenever the ball came near him and his constant running was a useful outlet for an overworked defence. Best performance of the season so far

Steve Simonsen - 7 - Great display after being thrust into the action. Good shot stopping, safe hands and decent kicking but maybe should have done better with the second goal

Tuncay - 6 - Failed to pick up the pace of the gaem, but theres no shame in that as it was express pace throughout. Will have better games
