Player Ratings: Stoke 0-1 Manchester City

Last updated : 15 May 2011 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorensen - 8(Man of the Match) - Pulled off a trio of blinding saves in the first half and was generally safe. No chance with the goal as he just tried to make himself as big as possible

Andy Wilkinson - 7 - Was solid on the right and tried to get forward when possible. Had a busy afternoon with Balotelli and Silva but did well

Marc Wilson - 7 - Was assured on the ball and defended well, against tricky opponents. Distributed the ball well

Ryan Shawcross - 7 - With his partner Huth not 100% fit he stepped upto the task well. Distrubution was a bit ropey but defensively he was sound, forcing the opposition to shoot from distance

Robert Huth - 7 - Was lucky to escape an elbow on Balotelli in the first half but was solid in the air and on the ball, without being at his best, after passing late fitness test

Jermaine Pennant - 8 - Was the Potters main threat as he worked tirelessly throughout. Some great crosses and set pieces. Was kicked from pillar to post and was on one leg from before half time but gritted his teeth and carried on going

Matthew Etherington - 6 - Was never at the races as his lack of fitness and belief in that troublesome hamstring was there for all to see. Subbed after an hour

Rory Delap - 6 - Gave the ball away too often whilst The Blues giant defenders were first to his throws. Sat too deep allowing Man City midfield to build attacks

Glenn Whelan - 6 - Sat too deep alongside Delap and gave the Citeh midfield all the time and space they wanted to spray the ball and build attacks

Jon Walters - 6 - Got little change out of the opposition defence as his impact was negated by smart tactics. Had a couple of decent runs but failed to cause the problems he has of late

Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Got battered all day but kept going and had the Potters best chance when he showed great strength to get through one on one with Hart. Had another couple of chances whilst he also laid the ball off for teammates when he had support

Dean Whitehead - 6 - Was brought on to replace an unfit Ethers but failed to make any serious impact on the game

John Carew - 7 - Looked dangerous after coming on. Should have squared chance after winning ball out wide late on

Danny Pugh - 6 - Didn't have long to make an impact as he struggled to impact the game late on
