Player Ratings: Newcastle 1-2 Stoke

Last updated : 29 September 2010 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorensen - 5 - Erratic and nervy throughout. Kicking was awful and looked on edge. Luckily didn't have a lot to do

Andy Wilkinson - 6 - Kept himself to himself, showed maturity after his midweek tackle to put in a no frills professional display

Ryan Shawcross - 7 - Looked better than he has done in the league recently to help keep Carroll and co away from the Potters goal

Robert Huth - 7 - Gave away a stupid oenalty but other than that was very solid and also had a major part in both City goals

Danny Collins - 7 - Assured display will have seen him cement his place again after coming under pressure following Higginbotham's impressive midweek performance in the cup

Dean Whitehead - 6 - Out of position out on the right but got on with the job and offered more than Delap does out wide

Salif Diao - 6 - Kept it simple and was always there to put in a tackle when needed. Gave a good fifty minutes before being subbed when his lack of fitness started to show

Glenn Whelan - 5 - Struggled with his distribution and was also erratic with his tackling. Subbed before the hour mark

Matthew Etherington - 7 - Always involved in the action as he created everything that came from the City midfield and looked a danger every time he got the ball in the opposition half. Defended well when he needed too aswell

Jon Walters - 5 - His early form has slightly dipped recently but niggles won't have helped plus Jones keeps scoring so there partnership must be doing something right

Kenwyne Jones - 8(Man of the Match) - Hardly in the game first half as he was left isolated but second half he was unplayable and put in a fantastic performance to boss the line aswell as netting the equaliser and striking the woodwork twice more.

Ricardo Fuller - 7 - On for less than 15 minutes before injury forced him off but turned the game around, allowing City to get the Toon Army on the ropes with his pace and trickery. Should have scored when Jones shot rebounded to him

Rory Delap - 6 - Came on to help us get back in the game. Equalised as he came on and netted a late winner. Although he wasn't involved directly in that action he was always in the right place late on to keep the Toon at bay

Eidur Gudjohnsen - 6 - Got involved a lot more than he did on his debut and class is obvious from his footwork. Needs to get himself fit before pushing for a start
