Player Ratings: Aston Villa 1-0 Stoke

Last updated : 19 December 2009 By Dan Buxton

Thomas Sorenson - 6 - Only called into action once in the first half when he pushed Petrov's shot straight to Young but blocked the rebound with his foot. Goal was point blank but he was otherwise solid

Andy Wilkinson - 6 - Solid as ever, he was dominant in the air and on the ground first half, not letting Young or Downing create anything. Needs to cut out the bookings that are coming more reguarly

Danny Collins - 6 - Brought back in and linked up well getting forward whilst shackling two of the best wingers on the league when he needed to. Another member of a solid backline. Was missing for the goal, with Etherington unable to get back in time to stop the cross

A.D. Faye - 6 - The skipper was given the task of stepping up his game with Shawcross ruled out and first half he was dominant, back to his old self you could say, pulling the plug on Villa's attacks. Shaky moment at the start of the second half when he lost Carew but the big man blazed over and it got worse as he was easily brushed aside for the opening goal

Danny Higginbotham - 6 - Had a good first half, closing and blocking everything in his area. Great slide to

Dean Whitehead - 7 - Not a great game but in an unfamiliar position, he did better than Delap has out wide in recent outings. Although not ideal he must be a better option there when Lawrence is unavailable in the future

Matthew Etherington - 8 - Great service for forwards and great ball to Sidibe for harshly disallowed goal. Also tracked back fantastically and made some crucial interventions

Salif Diao - 6 - Didn't really do anything first half, and although he ahd more to do in the second period was subbed off with 15 left.

Glenn Whelan - 7 - Had a few sighters early on without really troubling the keeper. Linked up play well going forward but faded as game went on

Mama Sidibe - 7 - Busy all game and unlucky with disallowed goal. Did his job well and without much help from officials

Tuncay - 8(Man of the Match) - Never stopped running again and looks to be really enjoying himself at the minute. Unlucky with a couple of chances that he created himself, twisting and turning but once denied by Luke Young and one went flying across the 6-yard box. Great touches made chances for others and himself

Ricardo Fuller - 5 - Was thrown on first but everything he tried failed to come off, including a great curling effort from 30 yards that dipped just the wrong side of the bar with Friedel beaten

James Beattie - 5 - Forced a corner with his pressure as soon as he came on but was otheriwse unable to get involved

Rory Delap - 5 - Thrown on for his long throw and energy but the throw he had was cleared and had little other opportunity to get involved, apart from hacking down Milner
