Ward was dropped and Cutler was brought in to guard the goal and fulfilled his duty well. He made one or two good saves and Ward may be on the bench for longer than we thought. His mistake at Brighton was the straw that broke the camels back and he was told before the game that he would not be taking part.
The opening 35 minutes or so were taken by city and they managed to take a goal from their pressure. A Bjarni Gudjonsson effort saved only for Van Deurzen to hit home from a smaller angle.
Stoke could have scored straight after a save from Hoekstra's shot and Cooke's follow-up was cleared off the line.
After the break it was a different story and Bury took control. Cutler was forced to make a few saves and it looked like Bury might get something out of the game. They failed to capitalise on their half an hour of pressure and Stoke used the best form of defence (attack) to prevent a Brighton calamity happening again.
O'Connor, who seems to have decided that he wants to play for us after a unsettled start to the season, was one of the driving forces in our 15 minute attack as the time got nearer to 90.
After 6 MINUTES of extra time (More than signaled by the assistant) which Stoke controlled also, The final whistle finally went and the Stoke following took a sigh of relief after we return to the potteries with 2 points.
