Burnley 1-1 Stoke

Stoke picked up another point away from home as they bettered the results of Manchester United and Everton and came away from Turf Moor with a draw.

The opening stages saw City take charge as Delap warmed his arms up with a few long throws that caused mayhem in the Burnley box, hesitant goalkeeping forcing the defence into a few panicky clearances. Faye also nodded a Lawrence corner wide and Etherington got the advantage over his full back from the off, beating him time and again, and putting numerous balls into the box that came to nothing.

Following those early exchanges the hosts came more and more into the game and a couple of free kicks were needlessly given away around the box and although they came to nothing the defence had to be switched on to deal with the bombardment that followed. Deal with it well they did, with only Nugent being allowed to get a shot in on goal but Sorenson was there to hold the shot.

As the game reached the quarter mark Collins cross was guided wide by Huth and then moments later the deadlock was broken when Tuncay drifted un unmarked to nod home after a Delap throw was flicked on by Sidibe.

This caused immediate unrest in the home end as the relegation threatened Clarets crowd showed their displeasure at the performance and score by heckling the home side. The boo's would have increased ten fold a minute later but Tuncay blazed high into the stand from a tight angle after collecting a Sidibe flick on.

Stoke controlled the game, as the hosts looked more and more at sea, knocking the ball around at will and looking for an opening but more than happy to bide their time. They won corner after corner but failed to make the most and just before half time they were nearly made to pay when a deep ball into the box was sidefooted wide by Martin Paterson, with the goal at his mercy. That wasn't the final chance of the half though as another dangerous Etherington cross was sliced away by Cort with Sidibe roaming behind ready to pounce.

Stoke started the second half as they finished the first and Tuncay made a great run in the hope of a second goal but the through ball by Sidibe was poor and rushed.

Despite all this pressure the Potters were pegged back when Nudent leaped highest and directed a header past Sorenson with former Potter Paterson grabbing the assist. The game went from end to end as the hosts picked up their game and the Potters continued to play an open game. Faye sent a header over and Cort blocked Tuncay at one end whilst Sorenson and Wilkinson combined to thwart Paterson.

Burnleys need was greater and as the game moved on it showed as they pushed for a second, killer strike with Eagles, Paterson, McDonald, Elliot and Alexander all missing from good positions and Etherington, Kitson and Tuncay all going close for Stoke whilst a late twelve minute cameo from 17-year-old Louis Moult saw him become the Potters youngest ever Premier League player.
