City sent out a strong side to take on Welsh part timers Albion Rovers and were rewarded with nine goals, including a brace for striker James Beattie.

Beattie's double was added to by an own goal, a penalty from Matthew Lund, who opened the scoring, and goals from Tom Soares, Ben Marshall, Florent Cuvelier, David Kitson and Wayne Thomas, who is training with the Potters following his release by Southampton.

The Potters sent out a strong XI which started with Danzelle St.Louis-Hamilton in goal, Andy Wilkinson, Carl Dickinson, Ryan Shotton and Andrew Davies in defence, Soares, Marshall, Lund and new signing Florent Cuvelier in midfield with transfer listed pair Kitson and Beattie up front, although the latter has stated he now wishes to remain at Stoke.

Subs were academy players Cameron Mitchell and Zak Foster aswell as the aforementioned Thomas.
