The 34-year-old, who admits he only expected to play a bit-part role this season, will make his 500th league appearance against the Potters, with a new contract on the verge of being signed. He will also captain the side in the absence of suspended skipper Karl Henry.

Henry starts a three-game ban after his controversial sending-off against Arsenal last weekend, depriving him of a meeting against former club Stoke. He had previously missed one Premier League game this season; the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United when Mick McCarthy fielded an under-strength side.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has hinted he will give a first start to youngster Louis Moult if Ricardo Fuller fails to recover from injury. Aged just 17, Moult has top scored for both the academy and reserves this season and would become the Potters' youngest ever Premier League starter.

The visitors arrive in good spirits after back-to-back league wins. If the Potters can beat Wolves they will register a third successive top-flight victory for the first time in 26 years.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Wolves are winless in their last four matches against the Potters. Their most recent victory was 2-0 at Molineux in September 2006.

• Four of the last six meetings have ended all-square, including the 2-2 draw at the Britannia Stadium earlier this season.

• It's the first top-flight meeting at Molineux between the near neighbours since December 1983. Just 35 miles of the M6 separate the two Staffordshire cities.

Wolves

• A Wolves win would see the club better the points total they achieved in their only previous Premier League campaign in 2003/04, when they accrued 33 points. They currently have 32 with five games still to play.

• Defeat last time out against Arsenal ended a run of four league games unbeaten for Wolves.

• Wolves have failed to score in six of their last seven league matches at Molineux, including the last three. David Jones' strike in their 1-0 victory against Tottenham is their only goal in the last 670 minutes (11 hours and 10 minutes) at home.

Stoke

• The Potters have lost just two of their 13 Premier League matches in 2010. Only Aston Villa (one) have lost fewer league games this calendar year.

• Stoke are unbeaten in their last five away league matches - their longest ever away run in the Premier League. If they avoid defeat at Molineux it will equal their top-flight club record six-match streak set almost 30 years ago from September to November 1980.

• City stand on the verge of three successive top-flight clean sheets for the first time in 28 years (February to March 1982).
