Paul Gascoigne is set to return to football as the new manager of non-league side Garforth Town.

The troubled former Spurs and England legend has been in talks with Garforth owner Simon Clifford, and a deal is expected to be announced shortly.

"Paul is right back on form and really wants to get back into football," a friend told The Sun.

"The cheeky smile is there for all to see again. He's desperate to get back into the game and has so much to offer."

Clifford said Gazza's appointment would not be a publicity stunt. "I want him to be an inspiration to people," he said.

Meanwhile, Stoke's uncomprimising defender Ryan Shawcross is apparently being targeted by Italian giants Juventus.

The Mirror reports Juve, who have had a dismal start to the new Serie A season, are interested in bringing the 22-year-old to Turin to strengthen their leaky defence.
