TP hits back at Chelseas Andre-Villas-Boas

The Blues were held to a 0-0 draw in Villas-Boas's debut in English football, and afterwards the 33-year-old Portuguese complained about the Potters' rough-house tactics.

But Pulis says that Chelsea are big enough to look after themselves, and even boasted a physical advantage by the final whistle.

Taking a tumble: Chelsea has three penalty appeals rejected at Stoke

The Potters boss said: 'This big Stoke team was actually outmatched by Chelsea at the end.

'If you look at the players Chelsea had on the pitch at the end of the game, there weren't too many under six foot - Jose Bosingwa and Ashley Cole were probably the only two.

'We do the best we can with what we have got. We are not enamoured with the wallet Chelsea have got.

Not happy: Andre Villas-Boas (left) was unamused by Stoke's tactics

'We haven't got the great players Chelsea have got. But the players we do have are very honest and give it their best every game.'

Villas-Boas is not the first to take umbrage at Stoke's tactics. Arsene Wenger has been a vocal critic, and Roberto Mancini is no fan either.

Plenty to say: Stoke manager Tony Pulis

Chelsea had three penalty appeals rejected in their draw at the Britannia on Sunday, but Villas-Boas refused to criticise referee Mark Halsey. He was less than happy, however, at the behaviour of Pulis's players at set-pieces.

Villas-Boas said after the game: 'Whatever the referee decided, (about the penalties) he decided. But the point I want to make is when you play in difficult games like this is the amount of pushing and grabbing in the box.

'It's out of this world. We had to deal with Stoke's set-plays and were competent enough to avoid the dangers they created. But there is a limit to the pushing and grabbing that makes it impossible for referees.

'It's not pushing the boundaries of fair play. But it is pushing the boundaries on pushing and grabbing.

'It's difficult. Referees have to keep their eyes on the ball and be aware of certain situations. In this case, maybe the referee is in need of some help.'
