It was reported after Chelsea's draw with Stoke on Sunday that Villas-Boas was unhappy with Stoke's physical approach and the jostling that took place when defending set-pieces.

Pulis, though, believes his comments were misconstrued by the media after the game.

"I listened to some of the comments that he made in the press room afterwards and they have been blown out of all proportion and I mean that," said Pulis

"He's actually said I think there was pushing and shoving in both boxes, but obviously it's only been reported there was pushing and shoving in our box and that's the press being the press, they have to do what they have to do.

"Chelsea are as strong and physical as we are and they don't try and hide away from that fact.

"But we are both competitive teams. They have got where they have got because they have got great players but they have also got competitive players.

"I think they've scored more goals off set-plays from their defenders than any other team in the Premier League so they don't stand still when they are scoring goals."

Asked if he was upset about the reputation Stoke are tainted with, Pulis added: "Not at all. People have to do what they have to do and I will stand up for this football club.

"I don't think Andre, actually listening to interview, was being disrespectful at all, but it's been blown up and you have to respect that as a manager."
