As reported yesterday on Stoke City MAD, It has been confirmed that Wayne Thomas follows Ade Akinbiyi to become a claret.

Steve Cotterill has been eyeing up the defender since his contract expired at the end of the season.

"I'm delighted to capture a player of the stature of Wayne Thomas," said Cotterill. "I think quite arguably he is one of the best Bosman signings available this summer.

"He is a player I have liked for a long time now and I've had the pleasure of working with him before so I am well aware of what he brings to the team. He has good pace, he's strong, has good aerial ability and a good temperament.

"He's proved what a good player he is at this level for a number of seasons. In my opinion he could go on to play in The Premiership if he continues to work hard at his game.

He added: "We've put in some hard work over the last few weeks in trying to sign Wayne which has been worthwhile and I welcome him warmly to Burnley".

The potters are yet to comment on the transfer.
