SKY Get Nationwide League

Last updated : 06 July 2002 By Rob Stanway

ITV Digital made a huge mess that could have ruined English Football by not paying bills which some clubs had already spent the money to - leaving them, quite frankly - in the sh*t.

ITV SPORT - with totally poor business judgement decided to plunge £350 Million into Football - totally over-estimated the amount of subscribers and at the end of the season decided to announce that it wouldn't be able to pay - putting many clubs from all tiers of the league in financial trouble.

The Market for Football Coverage has fallen and ITV DIGITAL suffered from this.

Sky - Who have always been known for their top quality football coverage and sports coverage in general have put in the offer to take back nationwide coverage as it was before the ITV DIGITAL venture which was accepted purely for greed and financial benefit by the Football League - not considering football supporters access to the ITV channels or even the quality of coverage.

The matches Sky will cover are as follows:

Nationwide Football League

60 matches exclusively live each season. Games will be shown from across the three divisions with 50 live matches from Division One each year.

Nationwide Football League Play offs

Up to nine live matches from the end of season promotion play offs including all three play off finals exclusively live.

Worthington Cup

Up to two live ties from each full round of the Football League's knock out competition plus semi-finals and the final for the first major cup of the season exclusively live.

LDV Vans Trophy

Final covered each season
