After the turmoil of recent times Stafford were just happy to have a club last August. Having said that seven defeats in eight pre season games, with just a 1-0 win over Stone Old Alleyians to show from their warm up programme, left the club nervously thinking of another relegation just two seasons after dropping from the BlueSQ Premier Division.

Relegation would have been hard to stomach for the 'Boro after overcoming such traumatic financial problems and defeat in the opening two league games saw nails already being chewed at Marston Road. Early season form is unpredictable though and two wins followed by a pair of draws showed that Rangers would compete in the league at least.

A 7-1 mauling at the hands of Droylsden was a big low point in the season but attendances were high and at least Rangers sat towards the top of that table for most of the season. With all the financial worries a cup run would have been welcomed with open arms but a 3-2 home defeat to Coventry Sphinx in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup, although the first round for Stafford, was followed later on by a 2-0 defeat to Blyth Spartans in their opening FA Trophy tie and a 4-0 defeat at home to Chasetown in the Staffs Senior Cup.

Wins over Harrogate, Ilkeston and Gloucester just about kept Rangers head above water but a three month wait for their next victory left them staring at the drop. Those fears were halted, temporarily at least, as the run was ended with a superb trio of January victories as Gainsborough, Telford and Harrogate all fell victim to Stafford and they shot up the table and away from the drop zone.

They needed those points as they recorded only two victories in the remainder of the season, although one was a crucial victory against eventually relegated Vauxhall Motors, but also only lost three times in the last fourteen fixtures.

Stafford finished in lower mid table, a huge 42 points off promotion, 20 points from the play offs but a comfortable 9 above the relegation zone.
