Nantwich had a disappointing season as, even with some prolific non-league strikers on their books, they failed to seriously trouble the front runners and had to settle for a mid table finish.
A pre-season that included just one defeat, a 4-3 loss to Chasetown in the final friendly, but had wins over Port Vale and Stoke aswell as a draw with Crewe, raised expectations that the Dabbers had a squad who could well be challenging for the title and the initial form saw them hopes carried.
With Michael Lennon and Matt Rhead hitting the net on a regular basis, Town stayed unbeaten at home until late October, but had lost five times on their travels by then. Defending was the problem, they suffered two 5-3 defeats in the first six weeks of the season, but at least the fans were nevber bored.
The goals soon dried up for Rhead and this meant trouble as Lennon was unable to carry the team alone and defeats started piling up. An exit in the 1st aualifying round of the FA Cup would have hurt the clubs coffers but a trio of wins in the FA Trophy took them into the 1st round proper and a victory over Hyde United allowed the Dabbers to progress in the Cheshire Senior Cup.
Rhead left the club at the start of December and was immediately replaced by ex-Stoke striker Marvin Robinson, who had had to retire from the pro game due to a knee injury, and Andy Kinsey, rejoining Nantwich for a third time, just six months after leaving for Congleton.
The new strikers couldn't stop cup defeats to Stalybridge Celtic and Cammel Laird within a week of signing but progress was made in the Unibond League Cup, Town beating Matlock and Mickleover Sports to reach the last eight before a heavy defeat to Curzon Ashton.
The league season was now the main focus and needed rescuing quickly and Robinson showed his class as he guided the team to wins over Matlock and Marine over the Christmas period before five defeats in six seriously damaged the promotion hopes.
Kinsey, along with three others, were booted out as manager Pete Hall desperately tried to halt the slide but results didn't improve and, on 25th March, following a 5-0 defeat at Boston days before, Hall left by mutual consent and Nantwich placed Kevin Street and Darren Tinson in charge for the final six games. The Dabbers won five and drew one of those games, including a 92nd minute winner in the final game of the season to finish the season on a high, just inside the top half and land the caretaker bosses the job on a permanent basis.
