John Rudge said: "We released Dave Rowson by mutual agreement because things had not worked out for him in England as he would have liked.
"He was highly regarded as a Scottish Premier Division player with Aberdeen and he came to us with a good track record in Scotland but both the club and the player felt he would benefit from a break and a fresh start."
