"I can understand their frustration and feelings," he said.

"We have been very close to signing players, but they've fallen through for different reasons.

"That's disappointing and personally very, very annoying.

"One or two have gone to other clubs in this league and we should have had them.

"We need frontline players, but also younger ones who can grow with the squad."

"You can bring in four or five cheap and cheerful players who might be all right and fill in holes over a short period, but eventually the whole thing falls down.

"I will stand and fall by the players I bring in and will try and make sure they are the right quality for what I call a big club."
