The 29-year-old, formerly of West Ham and Tottenham, was capped at England Under-21 level but is yet to receive full honours.

Pulis does not know whether Etherington's form has caught Fabio Capello's eye, but he knows what he would do if he were at the national helm.

The Potters boss thinks that the winger's workrate, coupled with quality down the flanks, makes him the ideal inclusion.

"Matty has been brilliant for us this season and built on the great form he showed last year," Pulis told The Sentinel.

"He set the bar high after winning the player-of-the-year award, but the statistics show exactly what impact he's been making since.

"His form has been England class this season. It's not just his quality on the ball, but his exceptional work-rate.

"It's up to Fabio Capello where England is concerned, but I know what I would do."
