Potters Stars Get Set For Departures

City trio Michael Tonge, Andy Griffin and Steve Simonsen all look set to leave the Potters after strong interest emerged from both Premier League and Championship clubs.

Tonge has failed to force his way into the first XI since joining from Sheffield United for £2m, two years ago, and spent the second half of last season on loan to Derby County. The Rams are now chasing the midfielder but both Sheffield United and Cardiff are also in the running with the Bluebirds favourites to land his signature.

Griffin, is in his fourth spell with Stoke, and joined on a free transfer from Derby two and a half years ago, but fell out of favour after clashing with Ricardo Fuller on Boxing Day 2008, and hasn't started a league game since. He finished last season at Reading and the Royals have come back in for the full back, with Cardiff also believed to be interested in Potters academy graduate Griffin.

Goalkeeper Simonsen has played more games for Stoke, 187, than any of the current squad, after joining on a free transfer in 2004.

The keeper, 31, has attracted the interest of a number of clubs, both for permanent and long term loan deals, after he recently signed a 12 month contract extension at City. Simonsen is third choice at the Brit, behind Thomas Sorensen and Asmir Begovic and will find chances extremely hard to come by in 2010/11. A Premier League club, believed to be Blackpool, and three Championship sides, believed to yet again include Cardiff, are tracking Simo and have contacted Stoke about his availability.
