The Potters have been paired with Championship side Blackpool in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup.

In a strange twist, local rivals Port Vale were drawn in the next tie out, they were given a trip to Scunthorpe, just as they were in the draw for round 2 when the Potters were one ball away from a trip to Vale Park, and the Potteries derby wanted by the majority of Potters fans was narrowly missed out on and both sides will have to progress another round to keep the chance alive.

The tie, a reward for beating League One Leyton Orient away on Wednesday, see's the visit of the only side to have knocked a Premier League side out of this seasons competiton, Blackpool defeated Wigan 4-1 on Wednesday night.

The tie will be played the week commencing 21st September at the Britannia Stadium
