Player Ratings: Season 2010/11

Last updated : 24 May 2011 By Dan Buxton

Asmir Begovic - 8 - Started off as number two but took his chance when it came along and has looked solid and assured ever since

Danny Higginbotham - 6 - Didn't have the best start to the season and found himself frozen out for long periods before he returned to the side after New Year and was putting in some superb performances, including two free kick goals, before knee injury ended his season

Robert Huth - 9(Player of the Season) - Cleaned up the official clubs awards as he was a rock at the back throughout the season. Scored nine goals, the joint highest by a Stoke defender in a season, but was equally impressive at the back and kept the leagues best strikers quiet

Danny Collins - 6 - Was hit and miss in the first half of the season before TP ran out of patience. Came in for the last two games as a centre back but looked understandably rusty

Glenn Whelan - 7 - Inconsistency was his main problem in gthe first 6 months of the season as the usual 'one good game, two bad games' Whelan was on show but the last three months saw him consistently put in some outstanding displays and was the best central midfielder at the club

Eidur Gudjohnsen - 2 - Was never fit all season and his performances suffered. Needed a run of games but poor showings meant he was never able to get that run

Kenwyne Jones - 7 - Was injured on the opening day of the season but after return he had a great run, netting in four consecutive games, and looked dangerous. Personal problems then saw a serious decline in his performances but returned with interest for the final three months of the season after news of his divorce was made public. Hopefully he will return with the same attitude and be the unplayable striker he has proven he can be

Ricardo Fuller - 6 - Not his usual self as he spent long spells of the season as a sub, and struggled to find the net when on the field. Was a game changing option when coming off the bench but injury at Villa meant he missed the crucial last games, including the FA Cup final

Marc Wilson - 7 - Drifted in and out of the side as he struggled to nail down a place in the starting XI but looks like he has put himself to the front of the queue for the left back position

Danny Pugh - 6 - Was the ultimate go to man as whenever the Potters needed a centre midfielder, or left sided player, Pugh stepped in and put in a decent shift, knowing it was likely he would be dropped regardless

Salif Diao - 5 - Only played 11 games, including 6 starts, as he found himself left out for most of the season before slotting in late on in the season

Jermaine Pennant - 9 - Was a vital member of the team as his pin point deliveries, coupled with agile movement and quick feet, caused havoc amongst opposition defences. Added goals to his game late on in the season and has admitted he now works harder than he has ever done in his career

Ryan Shawcross - 8 - Absolute colossus at the heart of the defence. Won everything all season again and formed a formidable partnership with Huth after Faye lost his placve in the side. One of the youngest captains in the league and led his side out in an FA Cup final

Dean Whitehead - 7 - Looked solid and energetic during the first six months of the season but the Potters produced their best football after he lost his place to Whelan. Will have a fight to get his place back with Whelan/Delap looking the best partnership and TP sure to strengthen this area this summer

Jon Walters - 8 - Wasn't appreciated by the supporters at first, but after the sales of Tuncay and Gudjohnsen the fans started to recognise his hard work and he bagged some fantastic solo efforts before ending the season joint top scorer

Tuncay - 6 - Was erratic during the early stages of the season as he struggled to find his top form. Scored a cracking goal against Manchester United but that was one of few highlights. Sold in January

John Carew - 6 - Had a good start to his Stoke career after joining in January but a back problem sidelined him for a big chunk of the second half of the season. Looked off the pace upon his return

Rory Delap - 6 - Again struggled when put out wide and seemed to struggle more in the middle this season. Played more than anyone this campaign but, at 34, I can see a bit part role next season as his legs may not give him another twelve months of chasing shadows

Abdoulaye Faye - 6 - Struggled for form and fitness early on and was dropped. Was called upon once or twice after but looked rusty before impressive game against Arsenal. Collins was preferred in the last two games, a sign he may be on his way

Matthew Etherington - 8 - Was consistency personified as he was a thorn in the opposition side week after week. Pace caused problems for every defence he came across and his neat footwork saw him turn many a full back inside out. Set piece delivery was outstanding once again

Andy Wilkinson - 7 - Tigerish defender hardly put a foot wrong all season, despite coming in and out of the team all season. Was strong in the tackle and developed a more attacking threat this season. Bombed forward at every opportunity this year and produced some great crosses but that first goal still eludes him although he has gone close a few times aswell, especially against Wolves when Hennessey just about tipped his sharp effort round the post.

Thomas Sorensen - 8 - Looked a bit ropey at the start of the season and lost his place after picking up an injury, When he played in the FA Cup he was outstanding and looked every bit a top flight number one. Could well regain the top spot if Begovic moves on this summer

(minimum 5 appearances)
