Coates has stated that spending money in January was always a part of the plan and that it is something he has prepared for.

He also says he is not too dissapointed with Stoke's start to the season and that Tony Pulis is adapting well to his first stint as a top flight manager.

In other news Tony Pulis has reiterated that Ryan Shawcross is not leaving the club in January as Derby County are the latest club to show an interest in the England under-21 centre half. Also Liam Lawrence is doubtful for the Sunday visit of Spurs and THomas Sorensen has opened a war of words with Martin O'Neill by claiming the Villa boss tried to wreck his career.
