Pennant to follow in Sir Stan's steps

Stoke have announced their provisional squad numbers for the 2011/12 season.

There is just one player who has changed numbers with winger Jermaine Pennant changing from the number 16 he wore last season to the iconic number 7 that was vacated by Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The 7 shirt is probably the most iconic at the club after it was worn throughout his career by Sir Stanley Matthews.

New signing Jonathan Woodgate will wear number 39, the same number he wore during his Tottenham Hotspurs career.

All other players have kept the numbers they had for the last campaign.
