Stoke have lacked in attack this season - scoring one goal from open play and that was Kris Common's wonder goal.

The situation was getting desperate as Stoke failed to show there attacking superiority over Bury on tuesday night.

The Icelanders said that they would show their support for Steve Cotterill before the next home game, maybe this was what Gunnar Thor Gislasson was talking about.

Mooney arrives from Birmingham where he scored 15 last season to help them win promotion, aquired on a bosman when Trevor Francis was manager, from Watford for whom he scored 22 in the 00/01 season.

Cotterill said: `We are delighted to get him. It gives us the lift we need and strengthens our attack.

`He is a hard-working player and he is certainly the type of player I would like to bring to the club on a permanent basis.'
