"We went away last year and got a result," Whelan told BBC Radio Stoke. "We obviously want to do the same.

"We're just thinking about Tottenham, we'll try to give the right performance and hopefully get the right result."

Two goals from winger Gareth Bale, the second a terrific volley from just inside the penalty area, gave Spurs a 2-1 win at the Britannia Stadium in August.

Stoke are six points above the Premier League's relegation zone with seven matches left to play after a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.

Jon Walters gave the Potters an early lead before Didier Drogba netted an equaliser for the visitors just before half time.

Whelan started for the fourth consecutive game after struggling for regular football earlier in the season.

"These are the games you want to play in," added the former Sheffield Wednesday man.

"I was disappointed not to get as many games earlier on in the season, but I'm getting a run now and I want to try and stay in for the rest of the season."
