"We'll be completing the signing when he returns from international duty. He's a bright young player with a lot of pace and promise and he did very well while at Sheffield Wednesday" Rudge told the official site.

"We want to see whether he is capable of taking that next step up and doing as well in the Championship."

Southampton manager Harry Rednap rates the forward highly and is keen for him to get some first team experience at the highest level possible.

"Kenwyne Jones looks to me like he could be something special", said Rednap. "He's raw, he's big, he's quick, good in the air - he could be a talent.

"Getting him out on loan did him the world of good. He went out and did the job and showed what he can do. We brought him back down and forced his way into our squad and could prove to be a player. He's got a chance.

"He's very laid back and isn't too affected by it all."
