20th September 1983 - Born in Birkenhead, England

June 2000 - Signs 12 month contract at Blackburn after progressing through youth system

June 2001 - Joins Bolton on three year contract

August 2002 - Makes Premier League debut in Bolton home defeat to Charlton

October 2002 - Makes first professional start oin Bolton's 1-0 League Cup defeat to Bury

February 2003 - Joins Hull on loan for the rest of the season

March 2003 - Makes Hull debut in 5-1 away win in League Two encounter at Carlisle. Walters nets twice on debut.

May 2003 - Returns to Bolton after scoring five goals in eleven games for Hull

August 2003 - Joins Crewe on one month loan

September 2003 - Returns to Bolton after failing to play a game for Crewe

November 2003 - Joins Barnsley on two month loan

January 2004 - Returns to Bolton after failing to score in eleven games for the Tykes

February 2004 - Joins Hull for £50,000, failed to score for Bolton, making six appearances, with just one start

February 2005 - Joins Scunthorpe on one month loan

March 2005 - Returns to Hull after failing to score in three appearances for Scunthorpe

July 2005 - Joins Wrexham on a free after being released by Hull. After signing permanently for Hull he scored three goals in forty one appearances, with just eleven starts.

June 2006 - Joins Chester on a free transfer. He scored five goals in forty one appearances, 36 starts, for Wrexham

January 2007 - Joins Ipswich for £150,000. He scored ten goals in thirty three appearances, 30 starts, for Chester

March 2007 - Scored his first goal for Ipswich in 2-1 home win against QPR.

November 2007 - Scored first ever hat trick in Ipswich 6-0 win over Bristol City

November 2007 - Called up to Republic of Ireland 'B' squad

January 2008 - Extends Ipswich contract by 12 months, to June 2011.

May 2008 - Collected Sponsords Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year awards at the end of season dinner.

October 2008 - Extends Ipswich contract by 12 months, to June 2012

October 2009 - Awarded captaincy at Portman Road

August 2010 - Stripped of captaincy and dropped by manager Roy Keane after fall out regarding move to Stoke

August 2010 - SIgns four year contract at Stoke, signing for initial fee of £2.75m
