Thomas Sorenson

Won his 84th cap for Denmark in the friendly at home to South Korea. The game ended 0-0 with the Dane picking up a confidence boosting clean sheet after his recent minor mistakes.

Glenn Whelan

Was handed his fifteenth cap for Ireland for the crucial World Cup qualifying play off against France at Croke Park.

Although the Republic lost the game by one goal to nil, Whelan put in a good, solid performance and was commended by Irish legend Liam Brady for how he performed. He also went close late on, forcing the keeper into a sprawling last minute save to deny the Irish a leveller.

Liam Lawrence

Was picked for the Republic of Ireland's crucial play off at home to France, his fifth international cap, and gave another sterling performance.

Has received much praise from the fans and pundits for his all action display and so nearly capped it with his second Republic goal but, after the keepers save was pushed into his path, brilliant defending from Patrice Evra saw Lawrence's shot somehow deflected around the post and the hosts denied what would have been the lead just prior to half time. The Green Army eventually lost to a second half goal from Nicolas Anelka.
