Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe will miss the rest of the season after snapping an Achilles tendon in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham, the club has confirmed.Sidibe replaced Rory Delap in the 85th minute but within three minutes the 30-year-old had to be stretchered off.

The Mali international had an operation in London on Monday.

Fellow striker Kenwyne Jones is injured and Stoke manager Tony Pulis said it was paramount the club brought in more players in the next week.

"The fact that we have lost Kenwyne and now Mama in our first two matches shows how lightweight we are in certain areas of the squad,"

I have never been a fan of Sidebe but he does give 100%. We could, however, come out of this looking better by letting Tuncay actually START a game...

"So we will be looking to address that situation before the transfer deadline [on 31 August]. It is important that we bring more goals to the team."

Pulis insisted that Jones, a club record £8m signing from Sunderland, will not be rushed back following the ankle injury he suffered against Wolves on the opening day of the Premier League season.

"We want to make absolutely sure he is right before he comes back and due to the international break he'd have a couple more weeks after Chelsea [on 28 August], if he is not ready for that match."

Sidibe, who signed for the Potters in 2005, missed around eight months of football after suffering cruciate ligament damage in a reserve game in March 2009.
