Gunnarsson has been offered a reduced terms contract, as many other of the Stoke stars this summer.
Gunnar Gislasson told the Sentinel: "Although Brynjar has gone out there to train with them, I remain hopeful he will stay with us.
"We have stated our intention to offer him a new contract and he will be about to receive that offer in writing, if he hasn't already.
"I would say we have made him a realistic offer, though he might disagree. But some agents and players have already come to realise football must now exist in a more realistic world."
