Gudjon: My lad with stregnthen Stoke

Last updated : 29 January 2005 By Rob Stanway
"He's got good vision, is a hard-working lad and a superb pro. He's a player that can carry the ball from the defensive positions Stoke seem to find themselves in", Gudjon told the sentinel.

"He can play off the striker, or anywhere across the midfield in a 4-5-1. He's played wing-back for the national team and done well getting forward, but I would say his best position at the moment is outside right.

"But he's a fit and versatile lad who can play just about anywhere you ask him, even sweeper."

"I know Tony Pulis tried to get Joey (Gudjon's other son) last summer, but nothing came of it in the end," added Thordarson.

"I must admit I never thought Toddi would end up at Stoke, but I'm happy for him now it is happening. I just hope he gets the chance to show what he can do".

Does he still have love for Red and White?

"I look out for Stoke's results every weekend," he says, "and there's no question it does hurt me to see them losing at the moment.

And his own progress?

"We are currently in pre-season training before the season starts for proper in May - you could say it's a long pre-season.

"But before then we have a tournament a bit like the League Cup in England which is played indoors. The weather is actually fine at the moment, but it is so unpredictable at this time of year."
