Griffin out for season, but Ameobi on the mend

Griffin, who has had the captains armband since John Eustace left to join Watford, left the field with a hamstring problem to be replaced by Ryan Shawcross.

The city right-back has not been in the best of form lately and many believe his best position is on the left, although he will still be missed in the run in. He adds experience to the squad and TP now has a headache whether to replace him by moving Chris Riggott from the centre or by bringing in Andy Wilkinson.

Ameobi also limped off early in Saturday's 2-1 victory to be replaced by Mama Sidibe. His return to fitness is welcome news as the Potters need as many options as they can going into this final 3 matches of the season. Ameobi has yet to find the back of the net for Stoke, but in the crunch time ahead he may yet make himself a hero.
