"I can honestly say I am the same down-to-earth person I was at Stoke," says the 22-year-old goalkeeper, "but it is fairytale stuff and it's still difficult to get your head round sometimes.

"I'm really looking forward to coming back to Stoke - and no doubt there will be a little meeting of the goalkeeping union with Steve Simonsen and Ed de Goey.

"I think I'll get a good reception from the Stoke fans. I can't see them booing me because I didn't play a game, but still got the club some money to go out and spend on other players."

"It was an unbelievably good experience to work with so many big names at United," he says. "Edwin van der Saar and Tim Howard were particularly helpful and really nice people."

And Fergie? "He didn't say that much really. He just told me to concentrate on football and forget about Manchester United while I was at Watford. He said 'just keep going and you will do well'.

"There were a few Championship clubs interested in taking me, but Tony Coton (United goalkeeping coach) once played at Watford and Colin Dobson is now the chief scout there after leaving Stoke.

"My first few games were a bit shaky as I got used to Championship football and playing with a new back four, but things have improved since then.

"I have to accept there will be more pressure on me nowadays after so much money was spent on me and because other clubs will be looking."

Boskamp commented on the goalkeeper's return with: "He will be motivated against us. We must carry on our good work and make sure he has a busy afternoon."
