STOKE CITY FANS FORUM

DERBY COUNTY V STOKE CITY, 31ST AUGUST, 2002

“The Stoke City Fans Forum is against any measures that restrict the freedom of the law-abiding supporter. It is disappointing that once again the majority are made to suffer at the hands of the minority.

The Fans Forum does recognise that Stoke City still has a hooligan problem and will continue to work with the club and the police to rid Stoke City of those individuals whose behaviour is the cause of the strict measures now being implemented by Derbyshire Police.

In the short term the Fans Forum has being working with the club to minimise any inconvenience for supporters. To this end the Derbyshire Police have agreed to arrangements that allow those supporters who do not live in Stoke-on-Trent to join official coaches at points to be agreed with Stoke City Football Club. This worked successfully for the Cardiff play-off game. Additionally, Potters Club members will also be able to purchase tickets for the game.

Finally, Derbyshire Police has agreed to relax a ban on the sale of alcohol in the Stoke section of Pride Park.

In the long term the Fans Forum will be exploring a range of initiatives to support the True Supporters message, home and away, and to create a culture at Stoke City where hooligans will find it difficult to operate. They are not welcome at Stoke City or any other football club”.
