Stoke have released centre back pairing Abdoulaye Faye and Ibrahima Sonko.

Former skipper Faye was inspirational in the Potters first season in the top flight after joining from Newcastle for £2.25m but struggled with injury during the 2009/10 season before losing his position at the heart of the defence to Robert Huth for the campaign just finished. In total Faye made 84 appearances, scoring six goals.

Sonko was signed from reading for £2m, also after promotion to the top flight but, after some appaling displays, was quickly dropped from the side and spent the last two seasons on loan at Hull and Portsmouth, where he also struggled to nail down a first team spot. Sonko made a total of 17 appearances, including 10 starts, for City, failing to score for the Potters.
