Adam has to serve a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card over the incident in the first half of his side's 1-0 Barclays Premier League loss to Albion at the Britannia Stadium on August 29.
The 29-year old Scotland midfielder told Sky Sports: "It's a tangle of legs, you can see as I'm coming down the momentum takes me forward.
"I don't lift my leg to stamp on him but there's contact there.
"It's gone now, we lost the game and I have to take part of the blame for that because I got sent off.
"We were never going to appeal given the history of things which have gone against me
There was a risk that it might even be increased to a four-game ban.
"I spoke to the manager (Mark Hughes) a couple of days later and we decided we just had to take it on the chin and move on."
Adam was banned by the Football Association for three matches in March 2014 following an alleged stamp on Arsenal's Oliver Giroud.
Referee Mike Jones did not see the incident but it was picked up on television footage and although the Potters said they ''vigorously appealed'' the FA's decision to punish Adam, an independent panel upheld the violent conduct charge against him.
