Boskamp defends tactics as Pulis beats his old club

"We attack and we defend with the whole team, but some players forget this by running out of position and leaving a free man that the opposition use well to hurt us". said Boskamp.

"I don't know why they do this. We spoke about it for two hours after the Cardiff game, but still they did it. I am really frustrated about it."

Pulis said: "When you are playing against one of your old sides," Tony Pulis reflected afterwards, "of course you want to win, especially if it's your first home game with a new club. And this result makes for a very nice weekend.

"But I have no animosity towards Stoke City.

"It's the first time I have worked up north - though they'll kill me for saying that because they say they are in the Midlands - and I thought the people there were superb.

"They were honest, straightforward, blunt at times and not afraid to tell you what they think of you, but I prefer it that way.

"I have nothing but good memories of being at Stoke City - and always will have."

And there was particular sympathy for Darel Russell - a kingpin in his Stoke line-up for two seasons - after his desperately unfortunate own goal helped swing the game Plymouth's way.

"He's a great lad," added Pulis. "I thought he did ever so well. His energy and commitment in midfield was excellent.

"Stoke were obviously keen to come and be strong and we were expecting a bit of a backlash. They played some good stuff at times, but maybe faded out a bit the longer the game went on.

"But they should be all right this season with the money they've spent and the amount of players they've brought in."
