Born in Birmingham, James Spray signed for local club Wolverhampton
Wanderers in 2006 after previously having an unsuccessful trial at the
club.

Spray earned his scholarship at the club through hard work and a
positive attitude which impressed his peers, he went on to complete
his scholarship and was offered a professional deal. Spray is highly
rated in the clubs youth set-up after impressing with both his work
rate and scoring record for the U-18 side, including an impressive
brace against local rivals Derby County.

Spray’s impressive form was rewarded at the start of the 2009/2010
season when he was named as a match day substitute against Wolves.
Although Spray was an unused substitute on the day he was present for
Wolves first top flight away victory in a quarter of a century.  Spray
has also been used as a substitute in Carling Cup ties for the club
but is yet to make his first team debut. However, he has started the
2010/2011 season as a regular for the reserves and is quickly making
his way through the ranks at just 18 years of age, making his first
team debut more a case of ‘when’ than ‘if’.
