Betting Preview - Stoke v Spurs

Last updated : 21 August 2010 By Dan Buxton

Stoke are back at the Britannia Stadium and, after last weekends disappointing result, will be hoping to take all three points against Spurs.

Tottenham travel north as favourites for the clash and are available at 7/5 with Bet365.  If you think The Potters will win their opening home fixture then you can get odds of 12/5 with Boylesports. The sides have never drew in the Premier League but if you fancy a draw then you can get odds of 12/5 again with Boylesports.

Stoke have won their opening home fixture in the past two seasons by a single goal. A 1-0 home win is being offered by Blue Square and 888sport. Spurs are rumoured to have a number of key players out and, with Stoke adding to their attack, a 3-1 home win is available at 40/1 with SkyBet, Blue Square and 888sport.

Spurs took all three points last season but it will be a much tougher test this time around. Coral and Stan James are both offering odds of 7/1 for a narrow 1-0 away win. Redknapp will demand a huge improvement after Tuesday’s “great defeat” and a 3-1 Tottenham win is available at 22/1 with William Hill. Both sides will be desperate not to lose a second consecutive game.  Boylesports, Betfair and Betdaq are all offering odds of 6/1 for a 1-1 draw.

Tony Pulis signed Jon Walters this week, and he could go straight into the side. If you think he could grab the opening goal on his debut you can back him at 11/1 with William Hill.  Fuller is 8’s with Sky Bet and totesport. Kenwyne Jones, if fit, is also available at 8’s with totesport, Blue Square and 888sport.

Tottenham could have a lot of key men out for the clash at Stoke so they may be looking elsewhere for goals. Crouch is tipped to start and he is available at 13/2 with totesport and Coral whilst Bale is at 14’s with extrabet.

You can also bet on what time a goal will be scored.  The Potters conceded twice in the first half last week and you can get odds of 13/2 that the first goal will go in between 31-40 minutes with Bet365, SkyBet and Paddy Power. If you feel that it’s going to be a close game then you can great some great odds on the first goal going in between 76th minute and fulltime. Blue Square and 888sport are both offering odds of 16/1 for the first goal to go in right at the death. On the other hand, both sides may draw blanks.  Boylesports, Stan James and Ladbrokes are all offering odds of 8/1 for the game to end 0-0.

It will be great to see Stoke get off to a winning start at home. William Hill is giving you odds of 12/1 if Fuller scores first and Stoke win the game. For Stoke to win and Etherington to open the scoring you can get odds of 25/1 with William Hill.

Although, if you think Spurs will get the first goal and take all three points then William Hill are offering you odds of 9/1 with Crouch scoring first.

You may fancy doing a six game accumulator this weekend so why not back Birmingham, Stoke, Cardiff, Southampton, West Ham to draw with Bolton and Arsenal to score over 2.5 goals. Bet365 are offering odds of 249/1 for this to come off.
