Betting Preview - Newcastle v Stoke

Last updated : 24 September 2010 By Dan Buxton

Stoke have a tough task on Sunday as they travel to Newcastle and try to get their first away point of the season, at the third time of asking.

The hosts are favourites at evens with BetFred, SkyBet and Corals. City are outsiders for the game at St.James Park. Bet365 are offering odds of 16/5 for an away win whilst a draw is available at 5/2 with StanJames and Victor Chandler.

Stoke will hope to keep the fans quiet and sneak a win to bring the points back to the Potteries. A 1-0 away win is available at 9's with most bookies. Newcastle have already lost at home to Blackpool and a 2-0 Stoke win would compound the sinking feeling the Geordies felt that day. That score is available at 20's with WilliamHill, BlueSQ and SkyBet.

Newcastle have had two great away wins this week, at Everton and Chelsea, but after the Blackpool debacle will take whatever they can get tomorrow in front of their own fans, so 1-0 available at 7/1 with StanJames, could be tempting to the sceptical Stokies. Newcastle are 8's with SkyBet to be the third team this season to beat Stoke 2-1.

The bookies are scratching their heads as to who the Potters will start with as Kenwyne Jones is 8/1(VictorChandler/Bet365), Fuller 9's(most bookies), Tuncay 10's(most bookies) and Walters 12's(Bwin.com) to open the scoring whilst Gudjohnsen is 11's(Bet365).

Newcastle's support will no doubt be fired up after their successful week and home boy Andy Carroll will be hoping to net first to take the noise up a level or two, with BetFred, SkyBet, Coral and PaddyPower offering 5's on the big number 9 opening the scoring. Shola Ameobi netted the winner at Chelsea in midweek and is 8/1 with Coral to bag the opener on Sunday.
