Betting Preview - Chelsea v Stoke

Last updated : 27 August 2010 By Dan Buxton

Stoke face a huge task this weekend as The Potters travel to Stamford Bridge, hoping to get their first points of the season.

The Champions are obvious favourites at 1/8 with BetFred and Paddy Power. Stoke are massive outsiders for the clash with Chelsea. BetFred and Victor Chandler are offering odds of 28/1 for an away win whilst a draw is available at 8/1 with Bet365 and Stan James.

If Stoke are to win at Chelsea then it would be by a single goal. A 1-0 away win is available at 80/1 with Paddy Power. Stick a tenner on that and you’ll be laughing! We were very unfortunate not to win at the Bridge in our first season and if you feel Stoke will come back as 2-1 winners then why not back it with Boylesports and Victor Chandler. Both bookies are offering 100/1 for a 2-1 Stoke win.

Chelsea romped to a 7-0 victory at the Bridge last season and a repeat of that score line is available at 50/1 with SkyBet and William Hill. The Blues smashed West Brom and Wigan in their opening two fixtures and a third 6-0 win is available at 25/1 with Coral and Sportinglife. If Stoke are to get anything from the game then a draw would be a fantastic result. SkyBet and Boylesports and William Hill are offering 18/1 that the game will end 1-1.

The bookies are adamant Stoke will fail to score this Saturday. Both Jones and Fuller are priced at 20/1 to opening the scoring with Bet365 whilst Walters is at 22’s.

Everyone is expecting a Chelsea goal and Drogba is the bookies favourite. He is available at 5/2 with Coral whilst they are also offering Lampard at 5/1. SkyBet are offering odds of 25/1 that there will be no goalscorer.

You can also bet on the time the first goal will be scored. It took Chelsea 34 minutes to open their account against Wigan last weekend. The first goal between 31-40 minutes is available at 7/1 with Ladbrokes. Apart from the 7-0 thrashing last season, this game has seen late goals. If you think the first goal will go in between 76-85 minutes then you can get a price of 30/1 with Paddy Power.

It would be fantastic to see The Potters take all three points back to Staffordshire, especially if you backed a score/win double. Fuller and Jones are available at 50/1 with Paddy Power to score first and Stoke win, what a result that would be. Abdoulaye Faye scored at the Brit last season and Blue Square is offering odds of 125/1 that the centre half bags the first and Stoke take all three points.

However, if you agree with the bookies and think Chelsea will score first and win the game then you can get Drogba at 4/7, Lampard at 6/5 and Kalou at 15/8 all with Boylesports.

Fancy doing a six game accumulator this weekend? I’m tipping Oldham, Brighton, Cardiff, Shrewsbury and Tottenham -1.5. Bet365 are offering odds of 32/1 for this 5 game accumulator.
