Betting Guide: Sunderland v Stoke

Last updated : 29 January 2010 By Dan Buxton

Stoke go into this league clash on the back of a great win over Arsenal, and sit 11th in the league. Sunderland have faltered after a flying start and haven't won at home since November.

Sunderland are, as expected, favourites for the game and are available at 23/20 with BlueSQ. Stoke can be backed at 14/5 with Bet365 and PaddyPower. The draw is 12/5 with Bet365, StanJames and SkyBet.

Stoke may have to sneak a win in this tense clash and 1-0 is available at 9's with mot bookmakers. The Potters biggest win this season was a 2-0 opening day win over Burnley, and Bet365 and SkyBet offer 20/1 that the Potters repeat that. The Potters have scored three goals quite often lately and SkyBet offer 50/1 on a 3-2 Stoke win.

Sunderland may have to put aside recent form, including a 7-2 defeat at Sunderland and a defeat at crisis torn Portsmouth, and grind out a 1-0 win. That scoreline is 13/2 with Coral. Sunderland look to attack with Darren Bent a key player and if leading late on could double the advantage. It is 17/2 with PaddyPower the Mackems win 2-0. Sunderland have conceded a stack of goals lately and 2-2 is 18/1 with SkyBet.

Mama Sidibe put in his best performance this season last weekend and will be hoping for more again. The hitman is 10/1 with SkyBet, Coral and William Hill to open the scoring.
Ricardo Fuller will be hoping to follow up last weekends double versus Arsenal and double his own league goal total and he can be backed at 7's with all bookies to score first. Matthew Etherington put in a world class performance last week and is in fantastic form, netting four times this season, and can be backed at 20's at PaddyPower and Coral. Rob Huth is a danger from set pieces for the Potters and he is 25's with Ladbrokes, PaddyPower, Bet365 and BetFred to net first on Saturday.

Darren Bent has been Sunderland's main goal threat lately and is 9/2 with most bookies to open the scoring whilst Kenwyne Jones has also netted a few and can be backed at 6's at Ladbrokes and StanJames. Boudewjin Zenden has made a successful return to Englsih football and his 20/1 odd's, available at William Hill and BetFred, seem very good value.
